Science Forming a crystal

What is a crystal, a crystal is made of different types of material, There are four types of crystals are ionic, metallic, covalent network, and a molecular.
How to make sugar crystals.

Introduction: in science yesterday we made sugar crystals from homemade syrup, we put sugar on the sticks to make a surface for the crystals grow.

Aim: to make sugar crystals grow from the popsicle sticks and see what they taste like when they are finished.

ingredients
sugar, water, food coloring ( optional ) food favouring ( optional )

Method

In a beaker, heat at least 250g of Sugar, together with 50ml of water. You want to dissolve as much Sugar as possible, While stirring, bring the sugar solution to a boil. Remove the beaker from the heat. add food colouring and food flavouring ( both optional )

While the sugar solution is cooling, prepare a plastic cup for growing your rock candy. Suspend a stick into a beaker. Remember you are planning to eat the rock candy, so use clean material. Don't let the stick touch the sides or bottom of your container.

Pour the sugar solution into your jar. Grow your rock candy somewhere that it won't be disturbed. Evaporation is important, so cover the top of the container with a coffee filter or paper towel to keep the solution clean yet allow air to circulate.

You'll start to see crystals growing in a day or two. Be patient - crystals will form as the water evaporates. If you start to see crystals growing on the top of the container, break them off and eat them or throw them away. If crystals start to grow on the sides or bottom of your container, just transfer the rock candy and crystal solution to a clean beaker. Allow your rock candy to grow until you are pleased with the crystals. You can eat the rock candy right away or, if you want to keep it for later, allow it to dry and store it in an airtight container.

a saturated solution is a solution that cannot dissolve any more solids, like sugar. we need a saturated solution to be able to make our sugar crystals

Health and safety, Home economics

Week 2

Before you start the practical you need to, wash your hands and table with disinfectant, get new tea towels to wipe the dishes, check the oven before you turn it on, use oven mitts to get hot trays out, hold a sharp knife down by your side, chop the vegetables on a chopping board then rinse it off after you finished, wash your hands after you have handled chicken and wash the place where the chicken was when you cut it, turn off the oven when you have finished.

Science

Aim: To show the hydrogen gas is produced when a metal reacts with acid.

Hypothesis: I should see bubbling from the metal, if I put a match in the test tube I should hear crackling or one big bang.

Science Experiment

Equipment: a test tube, a boiling tube, bunsen burner, wooden splint, a bottle of acid, a piece of metal, safety glasses.
Method

1. light your bunsen burner

2. Add your sample of metal to your test tube. Add 2 mL of acid.

3.Carefully invert the boiling tube above the test tube containing the metal and acid.

4. Hold the test tubes together for a few minutes, allowing time for the inverted boiling tube to fill with gas

5. When you think the tube is full your lab partner should light a wooden splint.

6. Carefully, but quickly, tilt the boiling tube full of gas upwards and insert the burning splint into the mouth of the test tube.

Observations: My group saw bubbling straight away when the metal hit the acid, the metal we used was

Writing.

Today for writing we got to watch a music video happier from marshmallow. We have to write about it in the perspective from the dog or the girl.

This is the music video we had to watch for our writing.
                       Warning! it's a bit sad.

Hauora

Whare tapa wha is about hauora and the four dimensions of well being, physical, spiritual, mental and emotional, social. this is useful information because the four dimensions, if one of the dimensions is broken your other 3 dimensions will fail. I participated by writing a long reason and helped build the house.
