The making of my sawhorse for VoT

Manufacture of a Sawhorse using Hand tools for my Building Construction Industry Trades Organisation qualification.

In term 1, 2021 I learnt how to use hand tools to manufacture a Saw Horse to a specific size from a set of drawings. This took about 6 weeks (24 hrs) I will explain how to make a sawhorse in this blog post

Here is my finished project.

This project was made by using hand tools only. No powered tools were used apart from a batterypowered drill to drill the holes for the screws.

I enjoyed Cutting the angles the most as well as the drilling

I found Measuring out the legs so they would sit flat the most difficult part.

I overcame this by laying it flat on the workbench and measuring it that way.

To make a sawhorse I carried out the following processes.

  • Marking out the top.

  • Cutting the joints

  • Hand sawing the leg ends.

  • Marking out / planing the legs

  • Fixing the legs

  • Attaching the end piece and support.

The Freedom Writers

The Freedom Writers is about a classroom called 203 and in that classroom there is people of colour, the teacher, Miss G wants a job at a school so she applies and gets the job. Most of the kids don't show up after a few weeks has past. She changes her teaching style and gets all the students on board and starts to teach them, they are making a lot of progress compared when they first started. Because Miss G has changed how she teaches them, she has to raise their own money to do stuff like school trips and getting people all around to visit them, the school wouldn't give them any money to go on school trips or even buy them books. When Miss G set her mind on something she went after it, her class didn't want to leave her for junior and senior year so she vists the the board about it, to see if she could,

How to work out volume

What do we mean by 'volume'? An amount of space a three dimensional (3D) shape is taking up

How do we measure it? volume = area (base) x height

[Is there a conversion to litres?] yes, it is: 1 litre of water is equal to 1,000 cubic metres of water

Volume of  a rectangle = Length x width x height

Volume of a cylinder = 𝝅 r squared h

Volume of a prism 0.5 x b x a x h

Blog 1: Art

1: Appropriation is when something is taken advantage of or has been copied with slight changes to an artwork or to a movie of some sort. A bunch of people creating stuff but changing little to nothing about it to make it 'theirs'. if art is valued for its uniqueness but appropriation is about copying why do we value art that is appropriation? it could be because there isn't an original or people just want to see it in different colour or they just copy it for money and to sell it to unfortunate people that think that's the original. it could be that people want to create copies and copies and copies of it to mass produce it.

Area Of Basic Shapes

Area of a square = W:10cm L:20cm 10cm x 20cm = 200cm Area
Area of a triangle = B:12m H:12m 1/2 of 12m = 6m x 12m = 76
Area of a circle = 𝜋 or 22/7 or 3.142 R: 33m 33m x 3.142 = 103.686m

Title this something that catches their eyes

This week I have been reading a book called Clash by Colin Mulhern its about a story of two boys changing to each others perspective on whats happening around.

Why is the text written the way it is?: Because there is two sides of the  story, one about a normal school boy called Kyle that is a great artist and another about a school boy called Alex that has problems with his farther and does illegal cage fighting and his farther bets on him, he may have stole one of Kyle's art because he liked it.

What questions about itself does not raise?: There is a fighting ring where people go to fight, since it is illegal its at a hidden location like a warhouse or abondoned docks (where it is) and they go there to bet on who will win and who will lose.
