English Movie Thing.

Deep Focus - everything in the image is sharp + clear

Shallow Focus - Focuses us on part of an image + blurs the rest

- tells the viewer where their attention is needed

In the holocaust scene, shallow focus is used to show the time of tolerance. For instance, we see a picture being passed around the room until it reaches Jamel. The picture is a stereotype of an African American with big lips and has Jamel's name on it. When he receives  it, Jamel can be seen putting his hat back on and him shrinking into his seat. Shallow focus is used to bring our attention on the picture and its effect on Jamel. This makes us understand that the picture was used to bully and embarrass Jamel. the director did this to help us empathise with the characters and gain on insight into what their lives are like. This scene introduces the viewer to the theme of tolerance because we can see that currently the students do not respect each others cultures, beliefs of identities. This makes students like Jamel feel unsafe in class.

Angles - high/low - shows power/dominance.

4 Hobbits are hiding under a tree from the black rider. they are afraid seen on their faces

colour - pellet - green, black, grey, dark, nature/natural dull. feels cold and uninviting

tilt shot - from the rider to the hiding hobbits

close-ups - hobbit faces - scared, nervous, bugs crawling across the hobbits, shows how difficult it was to keep still and quiet.

three close-ups on parts of of the rider - the horses hooves pawing pawing the ground the horses muzzle/bridal with red eye and the rides feet hitting the ground.builds up suspense before we see the rider.

low angle - looking up at the rider shows hobbits cowering below, makes the rider look bigger intimidating and frighting.

Blog 2: Art

2: It adds depth and 3-Dimensional to the painting and I could refer to the artists picture plane, white space is known as positive space when there is primary objects occupying it. A positive and negative space can affect how good the artwork will come out.

3:  Colour can show if it is bright or if it's dull, warm or cool and it depends on what end of the colour spectrum they are. purity or strength of a colour also matters, if you put to much or to little it will affect how you wanted the outcome to be.

The making of my sawhorse for VoT

Manufacture of a Sawhorse using Hand tools for my Building Construction Industry Trades Organisation qualification.

In term 1, 2021 I learnt how to use hand tools to manufacture a Saw Horse to a specific size from a set of drawings. This took about 6 weeks (24 hrs) I will explain how to make a sawhorse in this blog post

Here is my finished project.

This project was made by using hand tools only. No powered tools were used apart from a batterypowered drill to drill the holes for the screws.

I enjoyed Cutting the angles the most as well as the drilling

I found Measuring out the legs so they would sit flat the most difficult part.

I overcame this by laying it flat on the workbench and measuring it that way.

To make a sawhorse I carried out the following processes.

  • Marking out the top.

  • Cutting the joints

  • Hand sawing the leg ends.

  • Marking out / planing the legs

  • Fixing the legs

  • Attaching the end piece and support.

The Freedom Writers

The Freedom Writers is about a classroom called 203 and in that classroom there is people of colour, the teacher, Miss G wants a job at a school so she applies and gets the job. Most of the kids don't show up after a few weeks has past. She changes her teaching style and gets all the students on board and starts to teach them, they are making a lot of progress compared when they first started. Because Miss G has changed how she teaches them, she has to raise their own money to do stuff like school trips and getting people all around to visit them, the school wouldn't give them any money to go on school trips or even buy them books. When Miss G set her mind on something she went after it, her class didn't want to leave her for junior and senior year so she vists the the board about it, to see if she could,

How to work out volume

What do we mean by 'volume'? An amount of space a three dimensional (3D) shape is taking up

How do we measure it? volume = area (base) x height

[Is there a conversion to litres?] yes, it is: 1 litre of water is equal to 1,000 cubic metres of water

Volume of  a rectangle = Length x width x height

Volume of a cylinder = 𝝅 r squared h

Volume of a prism 0.5 x b x a x h

Blog 1: Art

1: Appropriation is when something is taken advantage of or has been copied with slight changes to an artwork or to a movie of some sort. A bunch of people creating stuff but changing little to nothing about it to make it 'theirs'. if art is valued for its uniqueness but appropriation is about copying why do we value art that is appropriation? it could be because there isn't an original or people just want to see it in different colour or they just copy it for money and to sell it to unfortunate people that think that's the original. it could be that people want to create copies and copies and copies of it to mass produce it.

Area Of Basic Shapes

Area of a square = W:10cm L:20cm 10cm x 20cm = 200cm Area
Area of a triangle = B:12m H:12m 1/2 of 12m = 6m x 12m = 76
Area of a circle = 𝜋 or 22/7 or 3.142 R: 33m 33m x 3.142 = 103.686m
